CVAM Newsletter December 2019

This is a brief newsletter, firstly to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, and secondly, to update you all with committee changes following the recent AGM and to give you a idea of where we see the club going in 2020.
The new committee would like to thank the outgoing committee members for their efforts in
improving the club and getting us into a great position to continue growing and improving.
Many thanks to Bob Samwell, Chris Poolman and Tony Field who have stood down from Chairman, Secretary and Chief Observer respectively.
New and continuing committee members following the AGM are as follows:
Chair – Shirley Eden
Secretary – John Owen
Treasurer – Pete Ford
Chief Observer – Mike Olding
Training Manager – Coron Wybrow
Ride Coordinator – Phil Scovell (assisted by Martin Hockley and Les Trudgian)
Data/Website Manager – Mike Kennedy
Membership coordinator – Wilf Hodgson
Disabled Riders Coordinator – Andy Arnott
Social Secretary – vacant
Publicity and Events Coordinator – vacant
You will notice that both the social secretary and publicity/events roles are vacant. They are being covered by the rest of the team, but if joining the committee in one of these roles appeals to you, then please feel free to make contact.
The club continues to go from strength to strength with another successful crammer weekend held in November with 100% pass rate, and increased membership from the ‘Super Saturday’ taster sessions held at Helmet City in Cheddar.
We plan to hold two crammer weekends in 2020. One in March and another in October. We are
hoping to make these an ‘open to all members’ event so that as well as getting our associates through their tests, we can offer opportunities for existing members to refresh their skills. We are also looking to run a training event specifically for our current members to refresh/improve.
Next year we will continue with our Super Saturday taster events. They will be on the first Saturday of the month from March through to October. We will also be attending the Weston bike night once a month from May. We would appreciate help and support from members at all of these events.
Rideouts will continue as this year, with a ride on the first Sunday of the month (excluding January) organised by Les Trudgian. Phil Scovell will be leading the mid-month Sunday ride and Martin Hockley will be organising the summer midweek Wednesday rides. There are always opportunities for members to lead a ride or carry out the very important Tail End Charlie role. Please let Phil know if you would like to have a go. The rides have been really well supported this year and we hope to continue this into 2020.
We plan to continue with our comprehensive programme of events, social nights and meetings and continue with the objectives and plans set by our outgoing Chair and committee:
– Consolidate on our recent changes and successes
– Identify where we can do things better
– Attract more new members and young riders
– Provide training for our observers
– Ensure we find ways to support our existing members and ensure we have a varied
programme of event and activities relevant and interesting to them
– Continue to promote our Charitable Key Objects regarding Road Safety
– Foster and promote the objectives and support the activities of IAM RoadSmart and other
local Groups
The club have purchased a phone which is held by our Membership Coordinator, Wilf. The number is on all of our new club flyers so that prospective associates can contact us directly. The number is 07598 966273.
Committee meetings for 2020 will commence on the 28th January and the minutes will be available on the club website –
Please let me know if you would be interested in further training to improve your riding skills. When we have an idea of numbers, we can plan accordingly.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your support and contribution which has made the club the success it is now.
Kind regards and Merry Christmas!
Shirley Eden – Chair
