Reflections

• Reflect on this - what are you risking?
There are people who love and need you in one piece. It isn’t just your life; the impact of your death or serious injury is immeasurable.

• Reflect on this - one in a hundred vehicles out there is a motorcycle. Why should other road users see us, they are not expecting a bike. Wear reflective clothing to give yourself as big a safety margin as possible.

• Reflect on this - riding too fast for the conditions is a key factor in many crashes. Even if you don’t get involved in a crash you may lose your license, get fined, or even go to prison.

Your IAM Motorcycle Test   An article by Jim McCarter, IAM examiner for Salisbury & Southampton
These notes are intended to help you to give your best performance on test. They have been committed to paper to replace the standard briefing I would otherwise give immediately prior to the Test in the hope that they will be more readily absorbed in the comfort of your own home, rather than by the roadside with the thought of an imminent test on your mind...

A Few Observations (if I may)   Hello, my name’s Tony, I’m 50 years old and I’ve crashed my motorcycle.
It’s 5 years ago now and the accident was not just an Inspector Clouseau ‘beump’, but a serious T-boning, which had broken my leg and had me off work for almost six months

Heavens Above

"The squadron pilots had been taught well and were learning swiftly. Observing, assessing, deciding, then acting – these things in that order were what pilots who wanted to survive and be successful had to learn. Slowing down a situation, assessing the threats accurately, knowing where the enemy fighters were and which enemy aircraft were a danger, that was the way to impose authority on combat"
From Michael G. Burns’ WW2 book - 'Bader the Man and his Men'

How close is that to the essence of Motorcycle Roadcraft? There is nothing new under the sun!
